Water Engineering Manager
Paygrade: 17W ($73,505.09-$85,059.96)

Job Description Summary:
Performs a senior management position within the PWSB and involves technical and supervisory work in the Engineering Division and is responsible for the efficient operation of that Division. Is responsible for performing technical work for water supply projects under the supervision of the Assistant Chief Engineer and the Chief Engineer. The work involves the application of engineering programs both in the office and in the field. Performs in a 40 hr. per week position and work involves all engineering functions involved with water supply. Interacts with all other Divisions of the PWSB and several of the Departments of the Cities of Pawtucket and Central Falls and the Town of Cumberland. Plans, schedules, and oversees the operational and maintenance activities of the Engineering Division. This position supervises the processing of all applications for new services, sizing of new and existing meters, sizing of new and existing services, performs field inspections of the installation of new services and performs field inspections of the proposed changes to existing services. Responsible for the application and enforcement of the PWSB standards in all matters, and for responding to emergency situations. Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Chief Engineer and Chief Engineer.
Minimum Requirements:
- B.S. Science Degree in Water Supply, Sanitary, Civil or Environmental Engineering
- Minimum eight years’ experience working for water utility /or consultant engineer with focus on water supply
- Valid Driver’s License
- Class D4 RIDOH Distribution License of ability to obtain within two years
- RI Engineers in Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain within one year

Job Description Summary:
Performs skilled work in the operation of heavy machinery and equipment, mainly a backhoe, including safe and proper excavation and backfilling of material for water pipeline installation and repair. Ability to operate in close proximity to other utility lines such as drainage, sewer, gas, and electric, which requires extreme precision and equipment operating knowledge. In the absence of superiors, the Operator is responsible for coordinating the work efforts of small crews.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) two years of full-time experience operating a backhoe and utility excavation.
- Must have knowledge of backhoe safety, as well as a knowledge of traffic laws involved in equipment operation
- Valid Driver’s License
- Valid Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL)
- Heavy Equipment License for backhoe operation
- Possess or obtain within one year of hire an OHSA Competent Person Certification

Job Description Summary:
Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the direction of personnel engaged in the performance of work in the maintenance, installation, and repair of water services, water mains, and related equipment. Performs duties as a working foreman under the general direction of the Water Utility Supervisor. Directs and supervises the activities of skilled and unskilled subordinates in the varied work associated with the installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution facilities, while performing the same duties oneself. Employees in this class work with considerable independence and are expected to exercise skill and judgement in carrying out instructions given by superiors. Prepares and submits reports, works on a scheduled 40 hr week, and responds to emergency calls on a 24-hour a week basis when requested by a superior.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus two or more years of experience in water distribution.
- Must possess or ability to obtain a RI Water Distribution Operators License Grade 3D within a year of hire
- Valid Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL)

Job Description Summary:
Locating and shutting off valves and water services. Installing, repairing, and replacing water services, water mains, hydrants, valves, and fire services. Making water main taps as required. Making repairs to broken and damaged sewer lines. Marking emergency dig safes when required. Operating and maintaining hand tools and power tools when required . Interacting with other Divisions of the PWSB. Interacting courteously with the public. Interacting with the Departments of the Cities of Pawtucket, Central Falls, and the Town of Cumberland. Performing related duties as required. Respond to emergencies on twenty-four (24) hour basis. Perform work appropriate to license level. Prepare documents and report as required
